What’s become clear is that LLM queries are rapidly replacing search for the discovery phase of shopping.

But unlike search, brands, DTC companies, and retailers have real urgency to make their products discoverable in LLMs. Algorithms are learning tools, and those who are present early will solidify their presence and have a big advantage over new players.

Clearly, there’s no time to waste. DTC companies and retailers need their products to be discoverable before they get chosen.

In our opinion, that involves enriching product descriptions at the SKU level to inform LLMs of how the product is used and what is good for. This lets the LLMs know which products to surface for which prompts. And when it comes to AI shopping, prompts reflect real human needs.

Many services offer to improve brand discoverability, but that won’t necessarily get your products to surface in LLM answers. It will make the LLM aware of you at the brand consideration level, not the SKU level you need.

As Diaz explains: “All of this points to Agentic Commerce growth and the imperative for brands and retailers to invest in greater product discoverability in LLMs, improve consumer experience overall within LLMs via apps and MCP services and get themselves ready for what is bound to be an AI discovery dominated holiday season.”

What ChatGPT’s De-emphasis on Reddit and Social Media Means for Brands

To gain consumer trust, ChatGPT is moving away from social and focusing more on domain score. Brands can officially relax their Reddit strategies. Diaz gives his analysis below:

“OpenAI has smartly realized that trust is critical to keeping consumers using their platform. For shopping, trust and accuracy are critical, neither of which were true earlier, as ChatGPT sourced mostly open-source data from various websites to provide product information.”
